Admission

Applying for Admission

University and college admission procedures in the US will vary from institution to institution, so you'll want to research each college or university site for the most accurate information.

The first step in applying for admission to a university or college in Louisiana is to contact the international admissions officer(s) at your chosen institution. Be aware that each institution may have slightly different requirements for everything from documentation to academic requirements, therefore it is important to speak with your preferred institution contact point as early as possible.

Applications are usually accepted on a rolling basis, but there may be benefits to applying early. Typically, applications are accepted from August through February for a Fall/Autumn semester start - generally in August for undergraduate programs. Many institutions will request that an enrolment deposit is made by 1 May to hold your place in their incoming cohort.

Here is a very brief checklist of what you will most likely need to provide with your application:

  • Official and original transcript(s) from your secondary school and your high school diploma or equivalent qualification (officially translated and certified in English). Transcripts must show ALL the classes you took and the grade or mark you received for each class.

  • Official and original transcript(s) of any course work you may have taken at any university or college and any qualifications received (also officially translated and certified in English). Transcripts must show ALL courses you took and the grade you received for each class.

  • Official or verified test scores you may need for the university or college you have chosen. For example: English Language Proficiency tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, or others (see institutions for specific details).

If you are eligible for a scholarship or other funding from the university or college, you may be required to show proof of other tests such as the SAT or ACT or other.
